Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how VoltCurb (“VoltCurb,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information collected through this website, the beta waitlist, the browser beta, and related communications. VoltCurb is currently a product in development. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to voltcurb@gmail.com.

1. Information we collect

When you join the waitlist, we collect your email address. You may also choose to provide your bike brand or model and whether you own a compatible Shelly plug. We record the date and source of your consent and may collect referral or campaign information contained in the link you used.

When you sign into the browser beta, the authentication service provides a stable account identifier, email address, and optional display name. The beta stores the equipment information you enter, charging preferences, Shelly model and device identifier, connection health, wall power and energy readings, relay state, session history, estimates, calibration confirmations, algorithm versions, and related quality or error information.

The Shelly’s private IP address remains in your browser during one-time local setup and is not saved in the VoltCurb database. Long-lived device tokens are delivered directly to the Shelly and stored as one-way hashes on the server. VoltCurb does not store Wi-Fi passwords.

For security and abuse prevention, the website processes limited technical information supplied with a request, such as an IP address and browser identifier. The waitlist uses this information to create a temporary pseudonymous rate-limit key rather than storing the raw IP address or browser string in the waitlist record.

VoltCurb also records limited first-party website analytics: the page visited, referral domain, campaign tags, and an anonymous identifier that lasts only for the current browser-tab session. The server stores a one-way hash of that identifier and daily aggregate counts. This is used to understand product interest and website performance; it is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

2. How we use information

• Maintain and manage the VoltCurb beta waitlist.
• Authenticate beta users and keep each user’s equipment, plug, and sessions separated.
• Operate requested charging sessions, show history, and improve equipment-specific estimates.
• Evaluate whether a bike, charger, or smart-plug setup may fit the beta.
• Send requested beta invitations, product-development updates, and launch announcements.
• Respond to questions, diagnose failed sessions, protect the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

Separately, you may choose to contribute pseudonymous beta data for algorithm research. A research export can include an equipment fingerprint, electrical telemetry, session decisions, model version, and independently confirmed starting or ending percentages. It excludes names, email addresses, Wi-Fi information, raw device tokens, and local IP addresses. Declining this optional contribution does not prevent ordinary beta use, and you may withdraw it later.

We do not sell personal information, use it for third-party behavioral advertising, or use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

3. Consent and email choices

Waitlist messages are sent only after you affirmatively request them. Every commercial launch or marketing email will include a working unsubscribe method and the sender information required by applicable law. You may also use the VoltCurb unsubscribe page or email us. Unsubscribing does not prevent messages that are strictly necessary to answer a request you initiated.

4. How information is shared

We may share information with service providers that help us host the website, store the waitlist, prevent abuse, or deliver email. Those providers may process information only for the services they provide to VoltCurb. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or complete a business reorganization or transfer. We do not sell or rent the waitlist.

5. Storage and retention

Waitlist and beta information is stored using cloud infrastructure in the United States. We retain active waitlist information while the beta or launch program remains relevant, or until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Operational beta records and contributed research data are retained during the beta while they are needed to operate the service, analyze charging behavior, reproduce model decisions, and improve the product. You may request deletion or withdrawal from future research exports by contacting us. When you unsubscribe from marketing through the website, optional waitlist setup and campaign details are removed and a minimal email suppression record is retained so we can honor the request.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate for a small early-stage service, including encrypted web connections, restricted database access, server-side validation, and rate limiting. No online system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and requests

You may ask to access, correct, export, or delete personal information associated with your waitlist or beta account, and may change the optional research-data choice inside the beta or by emailing voltcurb@gmail.com. We may need to verify that the requester controls the relevant account or email address. Depending on where you live, local law may provide additional privacy rights.

8. Children

The website and waitlist are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us so we can remove it.

9. External services

The website and beta may link to or rely on authentication, hosting, email, and Shelly services that have their own privacy practices. VoltCurb does not receive a Shelly account password through the beta’s direct-IP setup. Visiting a Shelly local page or using a Shelly application is governed by Shelly’s own terms and privacy practices.

10. Changes

We may update this policy as the product and legal requirements change. The date above will show the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated through the website or by email when appropriate.
